Community
Here at West, we're deeply committed to not only helping our students achieve their goals, but to teach them to focus on improving the communities around them as well. Below are some of our community outreach activies:
Worked with Superquest teacher training to provide workshops on the VEX platform and coding in Salem and The Dalles, Oregon.
Hosted a VEX Idea Factory for coaches and teams. During the factory we shared about VEX in Oregon, best practices for drive trains, arms and manipulators, and fundamental programming. We also held practice matches to help teams prepare for the coming season.
Coordinate the Salem VEX League. In addition to hosting the first and last events of league play, we help other programs in hosting a VEX League night. 32 Teams from Salem and surrounding communities are participating this season.
Host the November VEX Tournament. 32 teams from around the state competed.
Host a Friday Night and separate Saturday tournaments. This is set up for travelling teams so they can get in two tournaments with only needing to spend one night in a hotel. We have teams that travel 5+ hours each way to compete in this event! This year there are 30 teams signed up for Friday night and 50 signed up for Saturday!
FIRST LEGO League (FLL), FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST VEX Challenge (FVC), FIRST Tech Challenge FTC, VEX Robotics Competition (VRC)
